USA wins Gold Cup

Sunday afternoon USA took down the Gold Cup final 1-0 against Panama, with Brek Shea netting the winner yet again. I have mentioned before that obviously this is not the most serious competition and certainly not USA’s top team, but nonetheless, American soccer fans have a lot of positives here to look at.

They have won 11 straight games. Huge confidence booster. Donovan is clearly not even close to finished and was phenomenal in all of these recent games. (5 goals, 7 assists) Just easily the best player on the field in every game. Lot of differing opinions on that dude, but I, for one, am a fan. Brek Shea has been a very solid option off the bench for USA, and hopefully he continues his strong play in the EPL at Stoke this year. Wondo was also another bright spot from the Gold Cup. One negative from yesterday’s game was Stuart Holden getting what appears to be a serious knee injury. When healthy (which is rare) he is a great option for the midfield.

Overall, I can not wait until the WC qualifiers in September and for next summer in general. Definitely not going crazy with expectations, but I really think this is a deep and well rounded team.
