It’s been a slow week of postings and information from CotW, so we sincerely apologize for that. Balancing a real job in this monkey suit and a much preferred passion of footy blogging isn’t always easy, and this week has been particularly busy in the former for all of us here. It being Friday, I’ve completely mailed it in for the week and that has created some much needed time devoted to the world of international football. So on we go….
First off, what really grabbed my attention this morning is Real Madrid’s newest signing, a Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad. Apparently the 23 year old was impressive a couple years back at the U21 Euro’s, but I have to ask, who the fuck is this guy? And HOW THE HELL does Real Madrid pay £32.8 million for him? Shit is just getting out of hand these days. 101GreatGoals has a good collection of Real’s signings since 2009, which exceed a total of £400 million. Remember this face (or probably don’t, cause he’ll be riding the pine for the next couple years).
In other transfer news, Jose Mourinho has gone on record again to express how much he thinks of Wayne Rooney, perhaps in a further attempt to lure the perpetually-fence-sitting striker to North London. Rooney has just left his teammates, who just started their Asian pre-season tour, because of an apparent hamstring injury that will keep him out for a month. This, of course, has sparked new rumours that perhaps Rooney is not actually injured and that this sudden return to England may be to facilitate his move out of Old Trafford. Guess we’ll see. I’ve said it before, I just don’t care anymore.
And finally, in the big money news of stupid French clubs and their ludicrous amounts of money, Monaco have apparently met with Cristiano Ronaldo and PSG are set to conduct a physical with Edinson Cavani. These seem to be same rumours swirling around all the time, so hopefully this is finally an end to some of them and we can get some fresh rumours out here. Ronaldo has apparently met with Monaco owner Rybolovlev and discussed what I’m sure is some astronomical wage fees. And a little bit further north in the capital, Edinson Cavani is set for a medical with PSG to complete his £54 million move from Napoli. At least he’s not going to Chelski or Man City I guess.
