Daily Mail: West Ham are lining up a bid for Liverpool winger Stewart Downing as Sam Allardyce looks to rebuild his Hammers side. Downing would become the London club’s second arrival from Anfield this summer after Andy Carroll completed a £15million deal to make his stay at Upton Park permanent. Allardyce believes the two work well together, with Carroll aiming to thrive from the former Aston Villa winger’s service.
I honestly feel like I am now obligated to write the front offices of West Ham United a wedding style thank you note, using calligraphy, to thank them for their Cash for Clunkers special this off season. Just scooping up Liverpool’s unwanted scraps and actually paying fees for their services; brilliant. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy about the departure of a player from Merseyside. He’s not a bad guy or anything, he’s just a terribly overrated, overpaid, and overplayed midfielder, who in 65 league matches, came away with 3 goals and 5 assists.
This might be a sign that Liverpool is shuffling their midfield deck in order to make an acquisition or to give a starting spot to one of their youngsters like Raheem Sterling or Jordan Henderson. I personally like the idea of Sterling and Henderson battling it out to join up with Gerrard, Coutinho and Lucas. I like the speed and skill that Sterling brings to the table and I am slowly but surely coming around to Henderson with his hard play and gorgeous head of hair. We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, it looks as though my LFC FIFA 2014 midfield has definitely benefited from this West Ham move.
