Carragher to Join Sky Sports in a Punditry Role Next Season

Jamie Carragher, the lifelong Scouser and career Liverpudlian, announced his retirement earlier this year after a successful and very respectable time in the northwest.  Some footballers choose to go off into the sunset after a successful career and remain relatively quiet, some choose to go into coaching, and some choose a life on the TV screen adding their experiences and expertise to game analysis.

One recent example of the transition from pitch to punditry would be Gary Neville.  The former Red Devil has made a very successful move to TV and is considered one of the best analysts of the game out there right now.  Carragher will be joining him on Sky Sports next season.  That should go swimmingly.

But Jamie Carragher does have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world’s top flight football competition, so I think it’s a great addition.  I’m sure Red Nev and Carra will get along fine, and any banter and argument will make for great TV.  Carragher is very respected across world football and will bring great insight and opinion to the pre and post game coverage.  Not to mention, he’s got that borderline-incomprehensible Scouse accent which will give 80% of the viewers migraine headaches.

If you’re English, and speaking English, and need English subtitles, there may be an issue….

It does remind me of this great ode to some of Liverpool’s greats.  The Rafa, Gerrard and Carragher impersonations are spot on.
