Today marks the first time City head back to Old Trafford since their 6-1 dismantling of the Reds last year. It being one of the worst defeats in United history, Sir Alex saying it was “the worst day ever”, United are keen to get some revenge.
Granted, this time around it’s not as meaningful to the Premier League table as United hold a pretty convincing 15 point lead, all but locking up their 20th Premier League trophy. Nonetheless, this will still be a fevered match-up of bitter rivals. United are looking for their revenge, City are looking to salvage something from a disappointing season.
Mancini has claimed that United’s lead at the top of the table is not a true reflection of the season. A completely bone-headed comment and I have no idea what he’s going on about. Even Joe Hart has completely contradicted his manager and said “It’s not like United have won a bonus game worth 15 points and gone above us. They have kept winning and we haven’t so it has to be a true reflection.” Oh man! I smell more locker room trouble!
Either way, it should prove to be a great game with both teams fighting for at least bragging rights. A lot of pressure off United here, but a crucial game.
