FA Cup Update

This past weekend saw the latest results from the Quarterfinals of England’s oldest cup competition.  Let’s take a look…

Manchester City 5 – 0 Barnsley

A sorry looking Barnsley side were thrashed by the more powerful (and much wealthier) Manchester side on Saturday.  Tevez got a hat trick for the top tier club before appearing to just quit the game and asked to be substituted in the latter part of the second half.  I didn’t watch the whole match, but I did see this part of it and there was no sign Tevez was actually injured, it looks like he lost interest in a game that was already put to bed so I guess just “fuck it, I’ll come off”?  He appeared to have a spat with manager Mancini as he came off, I’m pretty sure Mancini was asking why he wanted to be subbed.  Class act.  No one seems to be talking about this so I don’t have a video.  Perhaps I’m looking too much into it, no idea why I would do that….

Everton 0 – 3 Wigan Athletic

Didn’t watch this one but I’m told it was a convincing win from Wigan.  Roberto Martinez’s boys have booked themselves a trip to Wembley after thoroughly beating the Merseyside club.  Highlights are there if you want them.

Manchester United 2 – 2 Chelsea

A tale of two halves here as United jumped out to an early lead off a beautiful link-up between Carrick and Hernandez, with the little Mexican dinking a header into the far corner.  United quickly saw themselves up 2 after a seeing-eye free kick from Rooney managed it’s way through a confused Chelsea defense.  Second half substitutes from Benitez gave the Blues new life, regardless of what the fans seemed to think.  Idiots, still.  Anyway, Hazard scored a lovely goal curling into the far corner followed by a Ramires finish that saw the game end in a draw and a replay will be scheduled at Stamford Bridge.  Mainly due to a brilliant save from an in-form David De Gea.  He’s very good, I promise.

In efforts to be not too biased, I’ll be honest that there was also a sorry looking incident at the end of the game where Rio Ferdinand seemed to lose his head a bit and trip Torres from behind after the play.  Not sure what Rio is thinking here and it’s a pretty dirty move, only to quickly realize his mistake, and tries to pick up Torres like nothing happened.  Out of character from the veteran defender, perhaps there is some history there….?

Millwall 0 – 0 Blackburn Rovers

The snorer of the quarterfinals pitted two second tier clubs together.  Not much to report here.  The replay up North will be played on Wednesday.
