What did I say? Another month, another Rooney to (fill in the blank) rumour. Whelp, the calendar has turned to March, so here we are.
Everyone’s got their panties in a god damn bunch this morning with rumours flying around AGAIN that Rooney is out in the summer. But this time, I will admit it is a bit different. It is being reported that now United are willing to entertain offers in the range of £35 million for the former #1 striker. All speculation in the past was around Rooney’s wage demands and being unhappy at the club and how United had no ambition anymore and yada yada yada. But now it seems Rooney is playing second fiddle to Robin Van Persie and United seem willing to offload for the right price.
However, please note that this is mere speculation and assumption. Just because Rooney was left out of the starting XI for Tuesday’s Champions League
horseshit game clash with Real Madrid, everyone is up in arms that Fergie is fed up and the #10 is out of favor. We’ve seen it before from Fergie after David Beckham was left out of a Champions League tie with Real back in ’03 and was sold the following summer. We’ve seen it before that if you clash with the boss, no matter how big you are you will not be bigger than the manager and the club.
Now I’m not saying that this what is happening here. I think this is 75% a media shit storm and people trying to grab headlines and page views (present company included), but there is a sliver of chance here that this could happen. Rooney’s stock has gone down in recent years as his wages have sky rocketed to a reported £300,000(!) a week, so there are maybe a handful of clubs who can take him in.
Let’s put it up to a poll!
