Well, that could have gone better. Team USA certainly didn’t make their road to Brazil any easier by dropping their first big matchup to Honduras in the CONCACAF Hexagonal group stage. Clint Dempsey gave the US a brief lead when he put away a solid volley in the 36th minute, but Honduras answered quickly with Juan Carlos Garcia’s incredible bicycle kick four minutes later to go in the locker room at the half tied 1-1. Team USA later gave up a goal in the 79th minute to Jerry Bengtson, which sealed the victory for the underdogs. Team USA will look to rebound on March 22nd versus Costa Rica in what should be a dogfight. Here’s a look at the highlights from the matchup.

Dempsey (36′)

Juan Carlos Garcia (40′)

Jerry Bengtson (79′)

With the fantastic goal by Juan Carlos Garcia Honduras had to win no matter what! Nevertheless USA showed a really poor football, lets see if they put a little bit more enthusiasm in their next match…
